Care Sheet For Your
Green Buddy
Housing

Let talk about the size of an Enclosure, now when you go to the pet store and
purchase your Green Iguana, the store clerk will show you a couple of tanks. He
or She will show you a 10-gallon tank, and probably a 20 or 30-gallon tank with
screen top and maybe even Doors on the side made of screen. And tell you that
this is a Great size for your Green Iguana, and it should not out grow it. Now if
you have a clerk that shows you a 55gallon tank, that clerk knows a little bet
about these guys. That tank well probably last you about a year, but your little
guy will out grow it fast. Before getting a green iguana you have to look around
at your house, and ask your self do you really have the room for one of these
guys. For one they will grow to be at least 6 foot long, and then they well need an
enclosure for that size. Now the minimum is 6 foot tall and 6 foot wide and 4 feet
in depth. Now if you want to go and buy enclosure after enclosure that is fine to.
Here are a couple of thinks you will need to know about the size of the
enclosure as it grows

Now at:
9 to 18 inches total length minimum enclosure would be 3 foot Wide x 1 foot
Deep x 1 ½ foot in Height
VERY IMPORTANT! This is the minimum that
you will need.

At 18 to 27 inches total length minimum Size is 3 ½W x 1D x 2 ½H
27 to 42 inches total length min. Size is 5 ½’W x 2’D x 4’H
43 to 60 inches in total length min. Size is 8’W x 3’D x 5’H
60 to 72 inches in total length min. Size is 9’W x 3’D x 6’H

Now that is if your iguana has keep it tail if your guy has drop its tail like many
iguanas do you can work it like this:

3” to 7” Snout to vent length minimum Size is 3 ½W x 1D x 2 ½H
7” to 14” Snout to vent length minimum Size is 5 ½’W x 2’D x 4’H
14” to 20” Snout to vent length minimum Size is 8’W x 3’D x 5’H
20” to 24” Snout to vent length minimum Size is 9’W x 3’D x 6’H

VERY IMPORTANT THIS IS THE MINIMUM SIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many iguana owners think that a 10-gallon or a 30-gallon tank will last pass a
year. I know I did, but your wrong it well last for a year tops! These guys grow so
fast and if you do not get a bigger enclosure in time you well have a weak, very
aggressive, very stressed iguana!! There are many things you can do if you are
good with your hands, and can work with wood you can build one. And you do
not have to mess around with the buying part, but if your not you will have to
look around for an enclosure that will fit your guy at that time and that is hard to
do. So what I recommend is you build an Enclosure or purchase the biggest one
you can find. But sooner or later your guy will need an Enclosure more like a
bedroom, you will have to think about that. Me I was lucky I had a spare bedroom
I could use.
Most people do not. But they do have the room! So here is what you have to
remember the Size, adults need an enclosure the size of a small bedroom so if
you cannot find one that big you may have to special order one or have one built
for you.
Now the perfect enclosure has air vents on both ends and on the top and 2
doors that open up. It makes it easier to clean the enclosure and for getting your
iguana out. Now the roof, sides and back should be made out of wood with a
Plexiglas window in one of the sidewalls and maybe a couple of windows in the
doors I would go with Plexiglas it is safer. I hope this has helped you somewhat
and remember
THESE GREEN IGUANAS GET VERY
BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a picture of the one I built
This enclosure I
made by using a
quarter of my sun
room it is 9ft high by
8ft wide by 6ft deep
